Certificate IV Units

Analyse and Apply the Bible

This unit will teach the individual to read the Scriptures well, interpret them accurately and apply that understanding to ministry today.

Group Ministry practice

This unit will equip those who are involved in ministries that have specialised audiences (such as, men’s or women’s ministries, youth or children’s ministries and music ministries), to improve the quality of those ministries as well as their own service within those ministries.

Personal management and spiritual health

This unit equips students with the necessary skills to grow as a Christian through spiritual disciplines, develop personal core values and manage themselves to achieve their goals. The skills developed will enable them to not just grow as disciples themselves but be able to disciple others as well.

Response to social and environmental issues

This unit seeks a God honouring response to the environment and to issues of social justice. It enables individuals to draw from biblical texts and current research data to produce socially and environmentally sustainable ministry plans for the future.

Theology in Practice

This unit introduces students to the Theology Proper and translating it into practice that is doctrinally accurate. This unit enables individuals to draw from key texts, movements and historical interpretations in order to produce fresh applications which avoid repeating the mistakes of the past.

The Biblical Narrative

This unit explores God’s ultimate purposes by examining the overall message of the Bible and the magnificent hope it contains. It will identify how the biblical elements fit together to make the whole, and to present this in ways that respond to the needs of any context.

Work with and care for others

This unit will enable individuals to draw from the Bible and contemporary theory to get the best out of themselves and others, as well as how to offer care and referral to those who require a higher level of care.


Diploma Units

Authentic Leadership

To lead in today’s society requires a complex set of skills. This unit seeks to equip individuals with those skills, specifically the ability to cast vision, to develop effective teams, and to reflect theologically to ensure that the leadership engaged in is authentically and distinctly Christian.

Counselling Basics

This unit will equip individuals with basic counselling skills to assist someone who is struggling to develop a pathway to healing, which may include referral to a specialist. This unit will help individuals care more effectively for those around them.

Crossing Cultures

If God has called you to minister to people from a different cultural perspective than you, then this unit is essential. It develops the essential skills of contextualisation and planning for ministry to people and communities of varying cultural backgrounds. It will be vital for anyone working within mission departments in local churches, Christian mission organisations whether inside Australia or abroad, or to those managing intercultural relations between churches and communities.

Emotional Intelligence and Productive Teams

This unit will enhance the ability of people to understand and work effectively with others. It will equip individuals with a range of tools and skills to capitalise on the personality strengths and minimise the damage of personality weaknesses of themselves and others in order to generate productive work relationships in ministry.

Engaging the Scriptures

This unit will teach the individual to engage with the Scripture’s on a deep level. They will develop the skills necessary to interpret and apply the Bible accurately, ensuring their life and ministry is built on solid biblical foundations.

God’s Call. Your Response

This unit explores the reality of the call of God and how individuals are to respond. It will develop the skills necessary to discern what stage of development the individual is in and what they can do to move forward in their call.

Jesus, Kingdom, Gospel

This unit hones in on the gospel accounts of the life, death, resurrection of Jesus and will enable you to interpret and apply the ministry and teaching of Jesus to any ministry context.

Organisational Management

Effective ministry cannot take place without efficient management. This unit will develop the skills necessary to manage departments or events well and provide opportunities to improve current practices.

Our Place in God’s Narrative

This unit examines the mission of God and the place that God’s people play in partnering with him in that mission. Skills will be developed that will help individuals and churches align themselves with what God is doing in their context and contribute to the global church.

Pastoral Care

This unit will equip individuals to care for people pastorally, providing them with tools and teaching them to work within good pastoral care systems.

Poverty Aid and Development

This unit examines the reality of poverty in today’s world and what an appropriate Christian response would look like in seeking to bring aid and development to relieve this poverty. The skills developed will enable individuals to engage with organisations that are involved in this vital ministry.

This unit seeks to utilise technology and social media to increase the effectiveness of ministry. This unit is taken as part of an agreement to serve within a particular ministry context as part of a placement.

Placement: Paradigms of Service

This unit explores the biblical concept of servanthood and servant leadership, and teaches the individual the skills required to reflect on their experience of service to discern what God is developing within them. This unit is taken as part of an agreement to serve within a particular ministry context as part of a placement.

Placement: Personal Evolution within Ministry

This unit will increase the individual’s effectiveness in ministry through developing the skills of integrating theories into practice, reflecting on one’s efforts and then seeking to improve. This unit is taken as part of an agreement to serve within a particular ministry context as part of a placement.

Placement: Longevity in Ministry

The unit realises that ministry and personal trials are a natural aspect of Christian ministry and so will enable you to use the Bible as a source of inspiration and faith to continue in ministry and to overcome the obstacles faced.

Sermon Design and Delivery

Preaching that is biblically sound and anointed of the Spirit has the potential to change lives. This unit will equip individuals to craft and deliver biblically solid sermons that engage audiences; to be a preacher that is used by the Master to change lives.

Social and Environmental Justice

This unit seeks a God honouring response to the environment and to issues of social justice. It enables individuals to draw from biblical texts and current research data to produce socially and environmentally sustainable ministry plans for the future.

Specialised Ministry Practice

This unit prepares those who feel called to a particular group of people based on age, gender, or interest, to minister effectively to them. It will allow the individual to draw from general group ministry theories and biblical texts, but to specialise in the demographic they feel called to.

Theology: God and Humanity

This unit will take a deeper look at the magnificent God of the Bible and how the members of the Trinity have interacted with humanity. Skills will be developed to help defend the truth of the identity of the Christian God and how to use that knowledge to grow spiritually.

Theology: Marriage, Sex, Family

This unit enables individuals to sensitively explore the biblical teaching relating to marriage, sex and family. This will enable them to use that exploration to assist in increasing the emotional and relational health of those individuals and families they minister to.

Theology: Ministry in the Spirit

This unit takes seriously the supernatural working of God in present reality and believes the church is called to be conduits of the Holy Spirit’s power in order to bear witness of Jesus Christ. The individual will be challenged to step out in faith and seek to minister to unbelievers and believers and trust that the Holy Spirit will move supernaturally.

Theology: Worship

This unit focuses on the role and importance of worship in the life and ministry of God’s people. It will be beneficial for anyone in a leadership role, as well as those in praise and worship teams. The skills developed will enhance the breadth and effectiveness of worship for individuals as well as churches.

NGO Practice

Christian non-government organisations and charity organisations accomplish so much good in the world today. This unit focuses on building relationship with them and local churches in order to meet practical needs of specific communities.
