A radical approach to church planting
Phil & Tracy Shand
Where are they now?
After studying at Harvest, Phil and Tracy Shand have followed their call to serve communities in Victoria. They have successfully planted two churches in Victoria, and are now training other leaders to do the same.
They go where others wouldn’t think to go: their first church began in a cinema at Chadstone; and the second was planted in a pokies venue in Point Cook. Their radical approach to ministry even saw them featured in The Age. As the article says: “Jesus told his disciples to take his message to the people where they gathered.”
How was Harvest part of the journey?
Phil says ministry would be have been much harder without the training, spiritual input and encouragement he received at Harvest.
“The strength of Harvest is its emphasis on practical training for ministry and on the power of the Holy Spirit,” he says. “The lecturers are currently actively involved in ministry themselves, so they talk out of experience not just knowledge.”
“If you look at the number of ministers that have come through Harvest, they number in the thousands. Their proven track record in developing ministers is very strong and they continue to expand and grow.”
